November/December 2015 round up of lateral partner moves in London

Welcome to the latest round up of lateral partner moves in the London legal market from Edwards Gibson where we look back at partner level recruitment activity in London over the past two months and give you a ‘who’s moved where’ update.

This edition concludes our Lateral Partner Moves for 2015 and we have included some facts and figures below comparing the year’s partner-level recruitment activity with that of 2014.

There were a total of 63 moves during November and December 2015, including 2 lawyers returning to private practice from in-house roles and 7 senior associates or counsel level lawyers moving to make partner.

Total partner moves London:

Nov & Dec 2015 – 63
Nov & Dec 2014 – 57

Total partner moves London:
2015 – 383
2014 – 440

Total number of senior associate/counsel promoted to partner in London:
 2015 – 53
2014 – 41

These figures show, in comparison to the year before, there were 13% fewer partner moves in London 2015. However it is interesting to note 14% of these moves in London were lawyers moving to make partner for the first time; an increase of nearly 30% compared with the previous year. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in 2016.
