Edwards Gibson Partner Moves report featured in Bloomberg Law’s recent article, ‘Law Firms Hire Partners in London at Record Pace During US Push’ by Tatyana Monnay

Tatyana Monnay notes the record high levels of law firm partner hires since January in London, highlighting the effect of US law firms’ talent acquisition as a driving factor in this increased period of recruitment. The article comments on Paul Weiss in particular and explores the US firm’s abandonment of its previous ‘partner pay system’ as a means to pursue ‘expensive new hires’.  To elucidate this point, Monnay quotes director Scott Gibson’s analysis that “the impact of the covetous New Yorker on the highest levels of the London legal services market over such a short period has been profound—certainly, greater than any previous law firm launch or relaunch this city has ever seen.”

Monnay also highlights US law firms’ encroachment into the London legal market as a driving force behind recent NQ pay rises by firms such as Linklaters.

She also further references Edwards Gibson’s report statistics, commenting, “Law firms including Simmons & Simmons, Kirkland & Ellis, and Pinsent Masons were among the top partner recruiters since January”.
