81st edition of Edwards Gibson Partner Moves featured in The Financial Times, Bloomberg Law, and Law360
Our 81st edition of Law Firm Partner Moves in London featured in three publications this week: The Financial Times’ The Big Read article, ‘How US law firms shook up the UK’s ‘magic circle’’ by Suzi Ring; Bloomberg Law’s article, ‘Law Firms Hire Partners in London at Record Pace During US Push’ by Tatyana Monnay; and Law360’s article, ‘London Partner Hires Continue Strong In First Half Of 2024’ by Marialuisa Taddia. 
The Financial Times focused on the expansion of US firms, stressing the pressure this has placed on UK firms in terms of pay and keeping hiring strong despite changing political and economic circumstances. Director Scott Gibson provided information on the partner hiring sphere specifically, stating that US hires have seen the market remain “red hot” in spite of relatively low demand for legal services in London.
Bloomberg Law addressed the increase in the number of partner hires in the first 6 months of the year, when compared to statistics from 2023. Edwards Gibson’s comparative statistics for London partner hires (257 in the first 6 months of 2023 and 265 in 2024) were used to evidence the impact of US firm activity.
Law360 also focused on the strength of the partner hiring sphere. Edward Gibson’s statistics showing the high level of partner hires were contextualised within the increasingly positive economic climate.
