Financial News cites Edwards Gibson data in article: ‘Which law firms have lost the most London partners this year?'

July 2026

Edwards Gibson partner movement data has been cited in a recent Financial News article by Zoe Hu examining partner attrition across the London legal market during the first half of 2026.

The article draws on Edwards Gibson research showing that 319 City partners changed firms during H1 2026, making it the second-highest first-half total on record despite a 10% decrease on the same period last year.

According to the analysis, DLA Piper recorded the highest level of London partner attrition, with 11 departures during the first six months of the year. Clyde & Co and Kirkland & Ellis were also among the firms experiencing the greatest number of partner exits, while A&O Shearman recorded six departures, bringing its total London partner losses to 25 over the past 18 months.

Quoting Edwards Gibson director Scott Gibson, the article notes that strategic restructuring is only one factor behind recent departures, with strong demand for high-performing partners continuing to drive lateral hiring activity.

The article highlights that, although overall partner movement has moderated from the exceptionally high levels seen in recent years, the London lateral market remains highly active, with firms continuing to invest heavily in strategic hires across practices including private capital, M&A, real estate and fund finance.
