In-House Family Office General Counsel, to £300,000 Back to List
A substantial international family office and investment platform is seeking a senior lawyer to assume responsibility for a broad range of legal and tax matters arising from the activities of its principals, their investment structures and wider business interests.
The principals are highly successful entrepreneurs who have built a significant global investment platform alongside substantial personal, commercial and philanthropic interests. This is a rare opportunity to move in-house into a genuinely broad role with direct access to decision-makers and exceptional exposure to sophisticated cross-border issues.
The role sits at the intersection of private wealth, tax and investment activity.
You will advise on matters including wealth structuring, family office arrangements, tax-driven investment structures, co-investments, governance, succession planning and the legal issues arising from a diverse international portfolio of investments and assets. You will also work closely with external advisers across a range of jurisdictions and help coordinate legal and tax advice on complex matters affecting both the family and its investment activities.
In addition, the role encompasses the varied and often unexpected legal issues generated by a substantial international family office. These might include real estate acquisitions, construction projects, hospitality investments, staffing arrangements, philanthropic initiatives, operational matters and other bespoke projects requiring pragmatic commercial judgement.
Unlike many in-house positions, this is not a role focused solely on legal execution. You will be closely involved in commercial decision-making and will become a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders on matters extending well beyond traditional legal advice.
Candidate Profile
You will have strong law firm credentials and are likely to be:
- a private client tax lawyer with a top law firm background and significant experience advising entrepreneurs, family offices, ultra-high-net-worth individuals and privately owned businesses; or
- a tax lawyer whose practice has involved substantial exposure to private wealth, investment structures and family office-related matters.
Experience of investment structures, private funds or co-investments would be beneficial, but deep funds expertise is not essential.
The successful candidate will be intellectually agile, commercially minded and comfortable operating across multiple jurisdictions and legal disciplines. You will enjoy variety, possess sound judgement and be capable of managing external advisers while taking ownership of complex issues from inception through to implementation.
This is an unusual opportunity for a lawyer seeking a broader commercial role and a position that sits at the centre of wealth creationthan traditional private practice, offering genuine influence within a sophisticated and growing organisation.
