September 2022: "Busiest Summer" - Law.com article shines spotlight on 70th Edition of Edwards Gibson Partner Moves
We are pleased that Law.com has once again featured our publication, quoting Edwards Gibson’s 70th edition of London Partner Moves July – August 2022, in its article ‘Busiest Summer For London Lateral Hires in Five Years, Research Finds’.
The article cites our observations on the continued high rates of lateral hiring, despite ongoing economic and political uncertainties and highlighted the particularly notable moves we reported in the past two months. Law.com correspondent, Jack Womack, writes:
“By way of the global challenges law firms face, Edwards Gibson identified “rising interest rates, skyrocketing inflation, a global energy crisis, international trade tensions, 1970’s-style industrial unrest, crippling government debt, U.K. political chaos, the fracturing of the post-World War Two global rules-based system… not to mention a full scale European land war”.
Despite these factors, the number of partner moves is also up on the cumulative five and ten-year averages for the same period—51 and 49 respectively.
Slaughter and May London partner Robert Chaplin left the firm in August to join Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, in what Edwards Gibson described as a “still rare, but clearly no longer unprecedented move”.”
